Lidl Italia has marked a significant milestone by inaugurating its first logistics centre in Sardinia, located in Assemini near Cagliari. This development is the twelfth logistics facility for Lidl in Italy and represents a substantial investment of €70 million, reflecting the company’s robust growth strategy in the region.

The opening of this logistics centre aligns with Lidl Italia’s ambitious plan to invest €400 million over the next six months, which will see the establishment of 40 new stores across the country. Focus on Sustainable Logistics
Set to commence operations on October 1, the Sardinian logistics facility is designed to optimize supply routes for the region’s 23 Lidl stores. By minimizing travel distances, the centre aims to promote more sustainable and efficient logistics, significantly reducing CO2 emissions by over 5,000 tonnes annually. This commitment to sustainability is a core part of Lidl’s operational philosophy.
Covering an expansive area of over 37,000 square metres, the facility boasts a storage capacity of 25,000 pallet spaces, equipped with 101 loading bays and 45 trailer spaces. These features are designed to ensure efficient handling and distribution of products to meet growing consumer demand.
Renewable Energy and Eco-Friendly Design
One of the standout features of the logistics centre is its 2,688 kW photovoltaic system, which is capable of generating approximately 50% of the facility’s energy needs. Powered entirely by renewable energy, the centre also includes a rainwater recovery system designed to meet the water consumption of about 1,350 households. This innovative approach not only enhances operational efficiency but also aligns with Lidl’s goals of reducing its environmental footprint.
Moreover, the exterior design of the building has been carefully considered to minimize visual impact on the surrounding landscape, demonstrating Lidl’s commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen.
