GLOBAL FASHION FRANCHISE INTELLIGENCE · UPDATED 7 NOVEMBER 2026
H&M franchises in selected international markets. Its agreements with Sinteks for Azerbaijan and Hola Moda for Argentina demonstrate a real route for capable retail partners. The investor’s task is to present a territory, operating platform and development plan that match the brand’s expansion priorities.
Updated 7 October 2026.
H&M franchise agreements: documented examples
| Announcement | Partner and planned entry |
|---|---|
| 5 February 2026 | Sinteks; first Azerbaijan store planned for the second half of 2026 |
| 24 April 2026 | Hola Moda; first Argentina store planned for 2027 |
H&M identifies these arrangements in its Azerbaijan and Argentina announcements. The dates above distinguish the announcements from the planned openings; they are not confirmation that either opening has occurred.
These examples show why a blanket statement that H&M never franchises is inaccurate. They also show why a prospective investor must check the existing market agreement before seeking new rights.
Financial scale: use the right benchmark
H&M Group’s FY2025 results, for the year ended 30 November 2025, report:
| Group measure | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Net sales | SEK228.285 billion |
| Gross margin | 53.4% |
| Operating profit | SEK18.395 billion |
| Operating margin | 8.1% |
These are consolidated group results covering multiple brands and activities. They are not an H&M franchise margin schedule or a forecast for a proposed store. A local investment model must use the actual supply terms, duties, rents and operating costs of the target market.
The operator proposition
A country-level fashion partner needs a retail organisation that can execute buying, stock control, recruitment, visual merchandising and customer service across multiple locations. The proposal must identify who will perform these functions and the experience behind the team.
Star Brands’ assessment examines the investor’s existing retail portfolio, management capability, funding capacity and access to commercially suitable sites. A market-entry case also needs a clear customer proposition: local purchasing power, category demand, competitors, pricing and the role of online sales.
The opening sequence should follow the strength of the sites and the supply chain. A large store count on a presentation is less persuasive than a funded first cluster with specific locations and accountable managers.
H&M franchise cost: the investment components
H&M’s cited announcements do not publish a worldwide franchise fee or minimum net-worth threshold. Those figures should come from the relevant commercial offer, not an unrelated franchise directory.
The capital plan must cover premises, fit-out, opening stock, systems, training, launch expenditure and working capital. Territory development adds warehousing, logistics, central management and future-store funding. The financial model should make the timing of each cash commitment visible.
For fashion retail, inventory deserves the same attention as rent. Product bought too early absorbs capital; stock delivered too late misses the selling season. Forecast import lead times, replenishment, size availability, seasonal markdowns and stock remaining at the end of each trading period.
Where an H&M proposal needs commercial precision
Pricing: show that the proposed retail price remains competitive after product cost, freight, duty and tax. A globally recognised value proposition still has to work at local landed costs.
Store productivity: calculate sales per square metre and contribution after staffing and occupancy. Separate flagship marketing value from the location’s operating performance.
Digital rights: establish which entity controls the online store, fulfilment, customer data and returns. Do not assume physical-store rights include every digital channel.
Development commitments: match the required opening timetable with secured funding, realistic fit-out lead times and management capacity.
These are Star Brands’ commercial review priorities. The final obligations are set by the negotiated agreement.
